After
Gordon's tragic death, the family requested that the College of
Physicians & Surgeons launch an inquiry into his death. After 18
months, the investigation was considered complete. Two statements stood
out for the family:
- "Your
point about informed consent is valid. When prescribing a drug, there
is a large amount of information, some of which should be conveyed to
the patient during discussions."
- "Your
point about mentioning the off-label status during the informed consent
is a valid consideration. Discussion of off-label status may help avoid
such concerns as yours in the future..."
As
the family continues to advocate for awareness on informed consent and
mandatory adverse drug reaction reporting, they'd like to share a quote
from Leo Buscaglia....
"Too often we
underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening
ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which
have the potential to turn a life around."
