Gordon,
our precious “preemie”, was born on March 15th weighing in at a
whopping 3 lbs 7 oz. With a drive for life - he hit the “magic 5 pound
weight” by the time he was five weeks old. He was an absolute joy as a
toddler who was adored by both family and friends.
Gordon
started his first day of school, September 1993, at the Rt. Hon Joe
Clark School in High River . He loved extra-curricular activities,
especially sports. His first season of ball was with the Red Devils, he
also played 3-on-3 basketball, was a cub scout, and was on his schools
safety patrol. In elementary/mid-school he participated in karate and
he played soccer on the #1 U-11 team. Gordon had a great set of friends
in High River ; they spent so much time at the house celebrating
birthdays, Halloween parties and just hanging out. Those memories are
cherished.
Gordon loved the water. He was an
excellent swimmer, and was always game for fun. He was part of the team
that “six up“ knee-boarded at Christina Lake - buzzing the shoreline to
show off their finesse. A family friend advised him to “…never waste an
audience”. Continuing his love for the water, at 9, he took diving
lessons and later put family to the test knee-boarding on Mara Lake .
Determined, he stayed out in the rain (for 50 minutes) trying to
perfect a “360”. He perfected it the following summer and proudly
showed off 10 “360's” in a row. The summer after, he learned to
wakeboard at one of his favorite spots in the world - which was
Christina Lake .
In 1998, the family moved to
Olds. Gordon made new friends and in short order became involved once
again in a variety of sports and extra-curricular activities including:
baseball (bantam), the wrestling team, the football team, and the long
distance running team. He took pride in the fact that he received
honors in phys-ed for nine-years in a row.
In
addition to athletics, he also enjoyed sport hunting and quad-driving.
Gordon passed his Hunter Education Exam in 1999 and bird hunted with
his Dad and his friends.
While attending High
School he ensured that his teachers earned every penny that they made.
He was interested in testing his limits; his friends were at school so
the perfect opportunity presented itself often. Gordon's friends were
everything to him!
In High School, at the
encouragement of his advisor, Gordon had chosen to participate in the
Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) for welding. For ˝ of his day
he completed his core subjects and during the second ˝ he participated
in work-experience. He absolutely loved the flexibility! His dream was
for his Mom & Dad to invest in a welding truck with him. |
